"PEKITI TIRSIA KALI"
You may have heard many discuss MMA, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kung Fu, Karate, Kick Boxing, Ninjitsu, Wrestling and other arts, all with the equal belief that their art is best. Yet this is not really a question that can be answered by talking. Most of these martial arts develop certain attributes for sport applications and others are so laced in tradition that you could train for years before you see an actual fight application that you could use in a real life attack.
There is a system however, that was designed and developed from the very beginning to be a genuine battlefield art.
Kali is the indigenous fighting art of the Philippines. With its cultural and philosophical values its history traces back more than 1500 to 2000 years in the past. The Pekiti-Tirsia system of Kali is the family system of the Tortal family. Its techniques are unique and in combat proven to be the most effective against strikers, grapplers, edged weapons (knives, blades etc.), impact weapons(sticks, rods, bats etc.), firearms (up close) and even multiple attackers.
Practitioners learn to relate to any situation using the same concepts of body angling, positioning, zoning, and flowing with the opponent. Timing, footwork and skill are employed rather than pure strength. The Filipino martial arts is a fluid, adaptable and practical method of self-defence, and is considered to be one of the most comprehensive martial arts systems known.
“Kali, the original martial art of the Philippines in its truest form, is a systematic art of combat fighting based on the science of strategy and tactics. The fighting methods are ancient from its historical and cultural developments, yet the techniques are forever ultra-advanced that its fighting values always remain new.” - Grand Tuhon Leo T. Gaje, Jr.
